SEBASTIAN HALL

Contemporary Artist

I am a artist from Manchester, UK and I have a passion for exploring the creative field of Art and developing my understanding of the creative industry.

The work I have up for this exhibition is about a new reality being in lockdown surrounded by 4 walls and no longer being able to explore the outside world so we escape to our imagination and create new realities to inhabit.

What theme are you exploring in the piece/s you have exhibited?

The theme I am exploring through these pieces involves how COVID affects the human mindset to make us remember a period of time outside of lockdown but as time grows deeper and deeper into lockdown, those memories become hazy and become a figment of one’s imagination with the location looking different and abstract opposed to reality.

What are your inspirations behind the piece?

My inspirations towards these pieces come from my love for psychology mixed with art as it plays on one’s imagination and creativity to create scenarios and imaginary locations to explore.

Which artists influence you and your work?

The artists that influenced my work include Bob Ross because of his creative mindset to create detailed landscapes using his imagination as well as Greyson Perry and his way of creating artwork to translates life within lockdown.

Which medium/s have you used and why?

The mediums I mainly used involves drawing to show a not so perfect vision of an event one travelled to prior to lockdown. I used charcoal to show this vision to represent the idea of the memory burning away and becoming a figment of one’s imagination, as well as smudging out the art piece to add to the effect of the memory becoming hazy and less enabled to remember the event.

What impact do you want to make on the audience?

I want future audience members to see this artwork that would date back during this pandemic and to give them a better understanding of life within lockdown surrounded by 4 walls and to give them a visual translation of the mindset of the people during this pandemic as words are not enough to transition this period of lockdown due to COVID.
